Overview

Mt. Kailash (gong rimpoche) refers to the sacred mountain in Tibetan and heaven of lord Shiva in Sanskrit (Shiva is the god of Hinduism), while the lake Manasarova means unconquerable the route is favored by those who respect the sacred mountain though the journey takes more energy and preparation.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Lhasa.
On arrival at the gonggar airport, be met and transferred to your hotel in lhasa. your guide will brief the whole itinerary on the way. free at leisure to acclimatize yourself to the high latitude for the rest of the day.

Day 02: Full day city tour of the potala palace, the jokhang temple, and barkhor street.
The potala palace: perched upon the marpo ri hill, 130 meters above the lhasa valley, it is the greatest monumental structure in Tibet. We kindly suggest you take taxi to the top of the palace which costs about 10 and then walk down after your visiting.

The jokhang temple: the jokhang is the most celebrated temple in Tibet. because the temple is not controlled by a particular sect of Tibetan buddhism it attracts adherents of all the sects as well as followers of bon-po, Tibet's indigenous religion.

Barkhor street: the barkhor is the oldest street in lhasa as well as the center of old lhasa and remains very traditional. it is a place where Tibetan culture, economy, religion and arts are assembled.

Day 03: Full day city tour of sera monastery, trupeng monastery and norbulingka.
Sera monastery: it is known as one of the three greatest monasteries of Tibet.it costs 15 to take a taxi to go, however, you can bargain with the taxi driver.
Trepung monastery: it is one of the biggest monasteries in Tibet.

Norbulingka: norbulingka means "jeweled garden". it was constructed as a summer palace for the dalai lama and later served the whole governmental administration.

Day 04: Lhasa to shigatse, drive 260km to shigatse and visit tashilunpo monastery.
Tashilunpo monastery: Painted in red and white, the buildings in the monastery stand closely together in terraced rows, offering a grand and majestic view.

Day 05: Shigatse to lhatse.
Drive from shigatse to lhatse. road condition is comparatively well. you can concerntrate on the beautiful natural landscape along the way.

Day 06: Lhatse to payang (250km)
Drive 5 hours from lhatse to payang.

Day 07: Payang to Baga (294km)
Drive around 8 hours from payang to baga then continue your journey to darchen, a small village just at the foot of mt.kailash. it is also the starting and ending point of the mt.kailash treking circut. a small bazaar in the village sells the daily used things like biscuit and instant noodles.

Day 08: Baga
you will start treking after taking some spectacular photos at the sunrise. then there will be yak and yak man to help with your heavy luggage, while trekking to mt. kailash circuit. on the circuit, there are five monasteries. you will get to the first one today. our cook will put up the tent and prepare for lunch and dinner for you.

Day 09: Baga.
trekking mt. kailash circuit. the weather is very changeable on the mountain. you may get numerous pictures of it in different apprearance in the last two days.

Day 10: Baga
trekking mt. kailash circuit. today you will finish the last section of the circuit and return to darchen.

Day 11: Baga to zhada. Drive westwards to zhada and visit guge kingdom.
Guge kingdom: the guge kingdom was founded in about the 10th century by a descendant of king glang darma and played an important role in the second renascence in Tibet. a lot of sculpture works and mural paintings were unearthed and many of them are preserved in good condition, although they are hundreds of years old.

Day 12: Zhada to baga.
Drive back to baga and say goodbye to the sacred mountain and lake. in the next few days, you will get to zhangmu, a town at the border of china and nepal via payang, saga, lhatse and dingri. pay a second visit to some of the towns and explore those places you have ever seen.

Day 13: Baga to payang.
Drive back to payang.

Day 14: Payang to saga.
Drive from payang to saga

Day 15: Saga to lhatse.
Drive to lhatse.

Day 16: Lhatse to dingri.
drive from lhatse to dingri. this section of the road is under construction from may,15 to sep 15, 2006. you may drive some 90km more bumpy and dirt road than usual to reach dingri.

Day 17: Dingri to zhangmu.
Drive from dingri to zhangmu.

Day 18: Zhangmu.
After breakfast, our guide will say farewell to you. you will walk across the friendship bridge and your mt.kailash tour ends.
